Literacy Pittsburgh teaches math and other skills related to construction in partnership with area training programs. You can learn more by contacting us or these programs directly:
- Breaking the Chains of Poverty offered by the A. Phillip Randolph Institute. In partnership with the United Steelworkers, this program supports individuals and families with the training, tools, and theory to give them a competitive edge in the high-demand job areas of Construction and Energy.
- Introduction to the Construction Trades Pre-Apprenticeship course offered by the Builders Guild of Western PA. This hands-on training allows participants to develop their knowledge of the construction industry as well as skills that can be applied across all building trades. The course includes career exposure through field trips to state-of-the-art union training facilities, hands-on activities, and meetings with expert craftspeople representing local trade unions.
- Trade Up supports individuals without a high school diploma who want to enter the construction trades. Participants can develop the academic skills needed to pass the GED® tests at Literacy Pittsburgh and transition seamlessly into the Introduction to the Construction Trades Pre-Apprenticeship course at the Builders Guild of Western PA.
