Literacy Pittsburgh is excited to announce the beginning of a significant geographic expansion that will bring more career programming, tutoring, and adult education services to communities across southwestern Pennsylvania.
Over the next few months, Literacy Pittsburgh will begin expanding career programming into Beaver, Washington, and Greene counties. These programs will include classes and services connected to our administrative, healthcare, and construction career pathways, helping adult learners build skills, earn credentials, and prepare for employment in fields that are important to the region’s workforce.
This career programming expansion is supported by funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission’s POWER program, which invests in workforce development and economic growth in Appalachian communities.
Literacy Pittsburgh will also expand its tutoring programs into Washington, Westmoreland, and Butler counties, increasing access to individualized instruction for adults working toward personal, educational, employment, and family goals. This tutoring expansion is supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Together, these investments will allow Literacy Pittsburgh to serve more adults, reach more communities, and deepen our impact across the region. Whether students are preparing for a new career, improving reading or math skills, strengthening English language skills, earning a credential, or working toward greater independence, these expanded programs will create new opportunities closer to home.
As we grow, we invite the community to help us connect with people who may benefit from or contribute to this work. You can support this expansion by:
- Referring potential students who could benefit from adult education, tutoring, English language learning, digital skills, or career pathway programs.
- Referring potential tutors who are interested in volunteering their time to support adult learners.
- Sharing job opportunities with strong candidates who may be interested in joining Literacy Pittsburgh as we expand our team.
- Several new positions are currently posted on our website. Interested applicants can view open positions through Literacy Pittsburgh’s Join our Team page.
We look forward to sharing more updates as programming launches in these counties and as more learners begin taking the next step toward their goals.
