Exciting successes, unprecedented demand

Matthew always loved to cook. Pursuing his dream of making people happy through food paid off last year, when he completed a culinary program and was promoted to a management position at his university food-service job.

Literacy Pittsburgh’s high-school equivalency program helped him get there. “It’s an amazing feeling to think about where I started and where I am now,” Matthew says.

Demand for classes is increasing at unprecedented levels.  Current enrollment is 22 percent higher than last year and 83 percent higher than three years ago!

At the same time, there are hundreds of prospective students like Matthew on our waiting list. The demand for our services is at an all-time high, straining our capacity to help these students reach their life goals.

These students deserve to reach their goals, just as Matthew has. Your gift today will help to enroll these waiting students in classes, purchase books and technology, train volunteer tutors, and provide professional teachers. Most of all, you will ensure that your neighbors will earn a GED credential, gain fluency in English, become U.S. citizens, get better jobs, or help their kids in school.
