Celebrating a Milestone Anniversary

Apr 10, 2026Staff Spotlights

We are pleased to recognize three of our staff members, Miguel Diaz Segura, Leah Patterson, and Nile Wilson, for five years of service to Literacy Pittsburgh’s students.

Miguel Diaz Segura
Program Coordinator – College Pathways

Originally from California, Miguel Diaz Segura came to Pittsburgh 5 years ago. He spearheads our College Pathways programming, which offers classes and workshops to help students make a smooth transition to college. Students learn about the application process and financial aid, develop their writing skills, and meet representatives from local universities.

“I have two older sisters who always stressed to me the importance of education,” Miguel explains. “As a result, I knew I wanted to work with people, helping them achieve their goals through education.”

Miguel is proud of the people who work at Literacy Pittsburgh. “We all have our individual roles, but we never forget about our purpose: to help students improve their lives. We each play a role in this, and I am happy to see that we invest our total effort and passion into helping students achieve this.”

Leah Patterson
Program Coordinator

Leah Patterson, Northside – Ohio River Program Coordinator, takes pride in supporting learner success by helping connect people to the right resources. That includes matching adult learners with tutors and guiding them toward the best educational path for their goals.

“Each learner brings a unique story, background, and set of experiences, and it is incredibly rewarding to be part of their journey,” Leah explains.

Leah is married to her husband, Jayson, and they have two sons, Orion, who is five, and LJ, who is thirteen, and their beagle Comet.  She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and is celebrating 25 years of membership this year. Leah recently earned her doctorate, and her research on intersectionality and its impact on leadership styles in the nonprofit sector has been published. She hopes to write a suspense thriller novel one day.

Nile Wilson
Operations Assistant

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Nile transitioned to his current position at Literacy Pittsburgh after working in retail positions.  “Coming here was a good shift for me, finally landing in a field I could consider a career for myself.”

Nile has helped implement changes at our Downtown Center that have strengthened site safety for staff and students, including the addition of security cameras. One accomplishment he is proud of is implementing a refresh cycle for staff and student devices, including laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads, to ensure equipment is efficient for daily use across the organization.

The diversity of staff and students within Literacy Pittsburgh creates a work environment that Nile enjoys. “Everyone comes from all over the world with different backgrounds and values; they add to the company just by being themselves,” Nile explains.
